Papa Joe’s Waterfront

We ventured down to the Florida Keys looking not just for a meal, but for an escape — and found it at Papa Joe’s Waterfront in Islamorada, right on the water at 79786 Overseas Highway. This gem offers the intoxicating vibe of sun shimmering, salty breezes, and the promise of pure, unadulterated deliciousness — a slice of island paradise that delivers on every level, with ample parking and a fishing camp on the property.

The ambiance is just as fantastic as the food. Park yourselves at the iconic upstairs Tiki Bar, perched above the action, overlooking the cornhole games and soaking in the water views — the energy is infectious, and the laid-back Keys charm is palpable. First, the libations: the Frozen Piña Colada and the Frozen Rum Runner were both absolute perfection, creamy, fruity, and perfectly balanced — so well-crafted that the optional rum “floater” wasn’t needed. Then the real star: the Wagyu Hot Dog. This isn’t your average ballpark frank — topped with sweet and savory caramelized onions, rich beer cheese sauce, and crunchy bacon bits, it made it into the top three hot dogs of our reviewer’s entire life. The menu boasts something for everyone, and the Coconut Shrimp Tacos we saw heading out to other tables are already the plan for our return.
