Barnacle Barney’s Tiki Bar and Grill

Set by the marina and boat docks at 1688 Overseas Highway in Marathon, Barnacle Barney’s Tiki Bar & Grill is a laid-back Keys institution — open-air tiki vibes, boat basin views, and sunset cocktails without white-tablecloth prices. It’s the kind of place where boaters, locals, and road-trippers all end up sharing the same rail, soaking up the sounds of the marina.

Start with a half-pound of peel-and-eat shrimp: plump, juicy, and perfectly seasoned — none of the rubbery stuff. The main event is the Captain’s Platter Fry, with perfectly blackened grouper, succulent fried shrimp, crispy conch fritters, and grilled vegetables, every bite fresh and well cooked. The burgers have a loyal following too, and anglers can use the “Hook and Cook” service to have their own catch prepared. Even the drinks — a Moscow Mule and a Jack & Coke — were on point, as usual. Come for the sunset, and check for live music most nights.
