The Island Fish Co.

Boasting the longest working tiki bar in the Florida Keys, The Island Fish Co. delivers a classic open-air waterfront dining experience overlooking the Gulf waters of Marathon. You can arrive by car — there’s a large parking lot — or by boat, and settle in beneath the massive thatched roof for fresh regional seafood, tropical frozen cocktails, and panoramic sunset views. It’s the kind of place you drive past for years on the way to Key West; stopping is the smart move.

We stopped in for lunch and ordered three simple items that turned out to be anything but. The Key Shrimp Quesadilla was delicious, and the Key Shrimp Taco Platter was excellent — hands down the best shrimp tacos we’ve ever had. The hit of the table, though, was the Lobster Bisque: thick, creamy, and loaded with chunks of fresh lobster meat. The menu is reasonably priced, and the service was excellent — prompt seating, spotless tables, and a server who genuinely knew the menu and the preparations. We highly recommend it and would absolutely go back.
