On the Overseas Highway in Key Largo, Zaika brings the Upper Keys something genuinely new: authentic North and South Indian cooking built on true scratch craft. All the yogurt is made in-house and serves as the base for marinades, dips, and beverages; meats marinate for 24 to 48 hours; and the clay oven fires to order. It’s a warm, inviting room with deep technical discipline behind it — royal Northern curries and coastal South Indian specialties side by side.
Start with the golden vegetable samosas packed with spiced potatoes and green peas and a scratch-made tamarind chutney, the coastal Pondicherry Style Calamari in gluten-free chickpea flour with a piquant tomato chutney, or the Tandoori Chicken Momos — Himalayan-style dumplings finished over the tandoor flames for a layer of charcoal smoke. The Chicken Tikka Masala is built on an eight-hour base sauce enriched with ground cashews, and the Kerala Fish Moilee simmers fresh local catch in coconut milk, curry leaves, and mustard seeds. The double-cut lamb chops emerge from the clay oven deeply caramelized and exceptionally tender. Fire the Garlic Naan to order, sip a velvety Mango Lassi or Masala Chai brewed to order, and finish with house-made Mango Kulfi.
